As someone who has run 4 half marathons, 1 marathon, 1 15K, and 2 10k’s, I have really enjoyed running through cities like New York, San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego, and my current hometown of Minneapolis. These races can fill up very quickly due to their popularity. Sometimes you aren’t lucky enough to have your lottery number picked for entry into a race. Most races have an option for guaranteed entry if you are running the race for a charity.

I was recently contacted by a charity group, The Fresh Air Fund asking if I could do a post to promote their charity’s run in the NYC Half Marathon by NIKE. I happen to be a big believer in doing runs for charity groups. In 2008, I ran my first ever full marathon and raised money for charity. After doing some more research into the Fresh Air fund, this was an easy decision to write up this post.

I can speak to the fun and enjoyment I had running the NYC Half Marathon by NIKE in the summer of 2007. I remember running through central park, hitting the streets of NYC, running across times squares, and finishing near Battery Park. One of my favorites memories of running this race is seeing and experiencing the massive number of people that come out to cheer on the runners. This makes running the race even easier. If you enjoy running through cities like I do, this is definitely a race that you should consider doing. I can even see myself running this year again in the next 3-4 years.

According to the Fresh Air fund’s organizers, last summer’s NYC Half-Marathon was a huge success and the Fresh Air Fund-Racers raised more than $125,000. They are looking for your help in making this year another huge success. The fund is also looking for hosts for NYC are kids for next month. Host families open their hearts and home to a NYC child who would not otherwise have the opportunity to escape the hot, crowded city streets.

Right now, if you are someone who is late to signing up or committing to races, you will notice that registration to the NYC Half Marathon is closed unless you are running for a charity. If you’re looking to run in NYC this summer and didn’t get into the race, consider running for the The Fresh Air Fund.
